Nicolas started off young, attending art workshops as a youth, later on he enrolled in St Lucas, an art school in Ghent. He graduated in 1994 and three years later he and Didier Serweytens founded the artistic agency Vrije Ruimte. He kept on schooling himself through night school: 2 years sculpture and 4 years live model drawing. But it turned out that painting was his true passion. He organized his first solo exhibition in 2000 and his work has been on display on various locations since then.

Nicolas has a verocious appetite for culture and nature, he explores them far beyond the Belgian borders. His travels to Iceland and India left a massive impact on his style and vision. The tranquility, the abundancy of colors, the impressive architecture, it all features in his paintings. He brings something back from every journey he makes and encorporates it the themes in his art, ranging from hypnotic landscapes to fiery dynamic explosions, rendered in abstract and compelling colors.

His paintings appeal to the observer because Nicolas always succeeds in bringing something new. Every work has a piece of the artist's soul and sense of adventure in it, and it's exactly that that makes them unique and warm. Nicolas is following a long and winding artistic road, and as far as he is concerned, it is just a beginning.
